The slot machine-only facility on Route 90 is operated by the Cayuga Nation, which says it is exempt from the state restrictions imposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
While some parts of the state, including Central New York and the Finger Lakes, have begun a limited reopening this weekend, that does not apply to entertainment venues such as casinos. They would be allowed to reopen in the fourth and final phase of the state’s plan to restart business, which is still months away.

No other New York gaming facilties, including those run by the Seneca, Oneida and Akwesasne Mohawk nations, have reopened.
The Cayugas say they are implementing some restrictions of their own due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. That includes reducing the number of open machines (and players) to 31. The facility has 84 machines.
The Cayugas also put in place these measures, following guidelines from the National Indian Gaming Commission:
> All patrons and staff members will have their temperatures taken upon entering the facility. Any customer of staff member with a reading higher than 100.4 1/4 u00ba will be denied entry.
> Masks or facial coverings must be worn at all times by patrons and staff.
> Six-foot social distancing will be mandatory, and staff will assure the practice is being followed.
> Machines will be sanitized between users and surfaces will be sanitized hourly.
> Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the facility.
Lakeside Entertainment, 271 Cayuga St. (Route 90) is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
Lakeside initially remained open for a brief time after Cuomo’s March 16 order shutting non-essential business. A federal judge ruled in March that the village of Union Springs could not regulate the facility, the Auburn Citizen reported. The Cayugas decided to close it later in March.
Clint Halftown, the Cayugas’ federally recognized representative, said the partial reopening of some Central New York businesses led to the nation’s decision for a limited reopening at Lakeside.
“As other businesses in the Central New York and Fingerlakes regions are beginning to reopen on May 15, our Gaming Commission viewed this as an appropriate time to resume operations, with new health and safety guidelines issued by the National Indian Gaming Commission in place and with consideration of federal guidelines,” Halftown said in a news release.
'We voluntarily closed Lakeside in March, but now is the time to carefully renew operations,” Halftown said. “We look forward to resuming full operations as soon as we think it is advisable to do so.”
